Systems Engineering Applied to Real Life
I have spent more than two decades working in audiovisual engineering, videoconferencing, technical operations, and enterprise support environments where complex systems had to perform reliably, often under pressure and across large organizations.
My career placed me inside public- and private-sector institutions operating across the continental United States and, in some cases, globally. It taught me to think beyond individual components and focus instead on how people, technology, procedures, documentation, physical environments, and organizational standards must work together as one system.
Throughout that career, I rarely approached problems as isolated failures. I looked for root causes, examined the relationships between systems, anticipated points of failure, and designed practical ways to improve the performance of the whole. I also learned that technical excellence means little without disciplined administration, clear communication, accurate documentation, responsible stewardship of resources, and respect for the people whose expertise makes a solution work in the real world.
Those habits ultimately became the foundation of Papa Bear Enterprises Global LLC.

From a Retirement Enterprise to the Next Chapter
PBE Global was never intended to replace my career. It was intended to become the next chapter of it.
My original plan was to develop the company gradually during evenings and weekends while continuing to earn a strong income through audiovisual engineering. Because I was paid well above what I needed for ordinary household expenses, I expected to fund early research, documentation, and prototype development from surplus income while continuing to save for retirement.
By June 2025, however, I had already begun to question the long-term stability of my position. I had been promised substantial work, but very little of it materialized. My manager was carrying an unusually heavy workload, yet many responsibilities that could reasonably have been delegated to me remained with direct staff because I was a contractor. By the time my position was eliminated without warning, along with eight others, I had almost nothing meaningful to do most days despite consistently positive responses from the customers I supported. Many of them believed I would eventually be converted into a permanent member of the organization.
The elimination of that role did not immediately persuade me to abandon my profession and become a full-time entrepreneur. It led me to examine the labor market carefully and ask whether the career path that had sustained me for more than two decades could still provide a tolerable position with a living wage, appropriate benefits, and reasonable security.
What I found was deeply concerning. Experienced technical professionals were increasingly being offered temporary positions, reduced compensation, diminished benefits, greater instability, and contract structures that transferred more risk to workers while offering less in return. After months of careful evaluation, I concluded that waiting indefinitely for the market to restore what it no longer appeared willing to provide was itself a serious financial risk.
Rather than continue consuming savings while hoping for a sustainable opportunity that might never return, I accelerated the enterprise I had already begun building.

A Question From My Son
PBE Global began with a question from one of my chosen sons in Colombia.
He asked whether I knew of any practical way to protect his home from extreme heat, humidity, and insects. I did not hear that as a request for a single product. I heard it as a responsibility.
The problems he described were interconnected:

Extreme heat and humidity degrades sleep quality, indoor air, and long-term household health.

Limited income, unstable grid power, and long distances to service centers restrict realistic options.

A protected home must guard occupants against severe environmental conditions and unlawful intrusion alike.
Field Validation & Local Realities
I began by listening closely to my family in northern Colombia and learning as much as possible about the realities they faced.
I tried to consider how I would approach those conditions had I been born and raised there, while remaining conscious that I live in Maryland and could not simply impose American assumptions upon a Colombian environment.
My family tells me what daily life actually requires. My role is to understand their experience, identify the underlying engineering and operational problems, and work with them to create solutions that fit their environment.
That process led to the Safe Zone System, our first integrated approach to reducing insect entry, improving comfort, strengthening physical security, and helping a modest house feel more like a protected home.
When engineering Becomes Survival
The severe flooding across Northern Colombia in Spring, 2026, was driven by a perfect storm of environmental failures:
- Rising Sea Levels: Coastal tides and surges pushed inland, creating a physical boundary wall at the coast.

An Unprecedented "Dry" Season: Relentless, heavy rainfall saturated the ground and filled regional waterways well beyond capacity.

Hydraulic Choke: Swollen rivers had nowhere to discharge, forcing water back up into the plains and inundating surrounding communities.

The Dam Breach: A major structural breach sent catastrophic volumes of water into the region, leaving stagnant floodwaters trapped across the landscape for weeks.

As those floodwaters sat, they created an explosive breeding ground for massive, relentless clouds of mosquitoes.
For our family at home, it quickly escalated from an unbearable burden to a life-threatening crisis. Both of my sons were infected and hospitalized, with medical caregivers and official reports making it painfully clear that the severity of the vector-borne illness nearly killed them.
I couldn't lower the sea levels or repair the breached dam, but I refused to let my family be eaten alive in their own home. Protecting Wilmer, Fernando, his mother Mari and their beloved pets from those vectors became an absolute, non-negotiable imperative.
That immediate threat drove the creation of the Safe Zone System. I needed an integrated barrier and environmental defense layer that could be built and maintained under real-world Colombian conditions. Since installing it, the system has held the line—keeping the mosquitoes out and keeping our family safe.
Responding to that crisis defined my approach to technology and design. When lives depend on the outcome, you don't build for theory—you build for total reliability.

When Wilmer and Fernando came home from the hospital, returning to the same open environment was not an option. The Safe Zone System prototype was engineered directly on-site to address the specific structural gaps of the property.
By combining physical vector defense with environmental management tailored to local climate conditions, the prototype proved that family safety doesn't require complex, unreachable infrastructure—it requires smart, deliberate design.

How I Think and Invent
Crisis forces clarity.
When my family faced a life-threatening, large-scale environmental event that standard, off-the-shelf options were unsuited to solve, I didn't reach for abstract theories. I relied on my foundational training in systems engineering, AV engineering, and IT support to build a reliable, immediate solution.
My professional background is built on a simple discipline: first, understand the underlying technical problem, then identify the non-negotiable functional requirements, and finally, design the simplest, most effective system to meet them. Whether integrating complex institutional audiovisual networks or troubleshooting an IT infrastructure, the methodology is identical.
That disciplined, problem-first approach defines PBE Global's invention framework.
